Another Day, Another Shut Down - My Letter to Albertans if I was Premier

So here we are, another shut down...what a surprise. Anyone with 2 brain cells saw this coming they day we reopened but here we are...again. Shocker!

Why did we reopen again? I personally believe that Mr. Kenney and his band of UCP sentient spray tans and pork rinds in fancy suits had no choice. More and more thin skinned Albertans were ignoring shut down orders and opening their businesses, attending worship services and going out and about in public without masks or social distancing. Kenney had to open as a pressure relief valve. If Kenney were to crack down on these ideological zealots, they would have been martyrs, causing more Albertans to jump on the anti-science, personal rights, anti-government band wagon. That's the way it works here in 'Murica Light.

It's time for Kenney to unpack his balls (if he has them) and tell Albertans the truth - negotiating with a virus does not work and the only way to crush the curve while people are being vaccinated is for a hard shut down. It's time to follow science and facts as posted in the journal Nature, those jurisdictions that had the strictest measures in place early on in the pandemic are faring much better economically than those, like Alberta, who decided against such measures. Clearly the conservative strategy has failed and costing Albertans dearly.

Albertans will go nuts...its their rights and freedom's after all you are curtailing. It's government overreach, Alberta will need to separate, Quebec, Ottawa, Trudeau, the NEP! There is not much in their arsenal but it whips the base into a predictable frenzy every time. Its funny actually to watch it happen again and again.

I know with your party currently in mutiny over your decision to institute a limited shut down and that you may have to follow through with your threat of a snap election if the bozo eruption prone members of your party won't fall back in line, you can't really say what needs to be said. Let me by your unpaid speech writer and pen the letter that you should be sending to all Albertans:

My Fellow Albertans,

We are now into the second year of this pandemic. Its been a long and hard road for us all. We have all felt the devastation caused by this virus, whether economically, through the death of a loved one or through a decline in our collective mental and physical health. It is also a time for reflection on what we have done to halt the spread of this virus and recognize that our strategy has not been effective. We cannot keep opening and closing down the economy, hoping that the virus will magically disappear. Now, vaccines are currently being rolled out across the country and Alberta. The roll out process is painstaking slow, too slow. It's not time to play politics and blame Ottawa. It's time to follow the well established science and evidence to crush the curve. While we wait for vaccinations to reach a critical level, the new variants are wreaking havoc and soon, our healthcare system will be overwhelmed, which we cannot allow.

It is time to recognize that we need a complete shut down of the economy, with the exemption of those critical services required by our citizens. We require stay at home orders and financial supports for all impacted Albertans. We also need to recognize that those essential workers who will be in constant danger of catching this virus will also need to be recognized with meaningful additional compensation  and support.

With this said, we are announcing a 30 day shutdown effective immediately. We understand this means different things to different people. There are those of you who will agree that this is the best option to keep people safe and healthy and there are those who will disagree for ideological reasons. Let me be clear, ideology will not trump science, evidence and the facts. Period. Full Stop.  We recognize that as we progress through this pandemic, the information available will change and may be conflicting. We are living in a real time science experiment. I know most Albertans understand this and will abide by the restrictions coming into effect.

Now, I want to address those Albertans who can't seem to figure it out. No, this is not a hoax or a conspiracy. Your rights are not without limit and this is not Nazi Germany. We are living through a public health crisis. Your opinions on the matter are just your opinions and are not fact. There will be strict penalties for defying the orders that are going into effect and should you decide that they do not apply to you, you will be fined and/or jailed. Don't be a martyr for your cause. There will be zero tolerance policy in place. You have been warned.

Finally, there is a question of how do we pay for this. This is a valid concern. But it is time to be truthful about how our economy works. Ottawa can spend without financial limit. Alberta cannot. We will be approaching Ottawa to fund these measures that will allow Albertans to stay at home and minimize any financial impacts while we are in lockdown. Ottawa can afford to do this and in the end, we know that opening and closing the economy is more costly to everybody.

We will get through this. We just need a little bit more time and I know we can get through this and all be better off for it.

Thank you.

Jason Kenney.

Ok, there it is Mr. Kenney. Know that most Albertans do not support your party. You can count on the majority to have your back on this. Its time to stop playing politics and do the right thing.
