Just Some Rando Thoughts Over the Weekend

I really miss fried chicken. It’s not the same when you make it at home. And its really messy to clean up.

Enjoyed some ice cream from XO Waffles and Ice Cream this weekend. There were 4 young girls in front of us and they were quite excited at having some delicious ice cream, but they didn’t take cash so Sherri and I bought it for them. I felt bad…not an emotion I have very often so I figured we should do something nice. 

Mom and Dad will be moving into the “forever home” in July. I am quite excited for them. They will have a beautiful space to call their own and for the first time ever not have a cold car in the winter. I don’t think they really appreciate how awesome heated, underground parking is just yet.

Not sure how I feel about Alberta opening up for business this soon. It appears many people think all is good now and life returns to normal. I fear round 2 happening and then what? We have to do this all over again?

I quite like working from home and feel very lucky to still have a job. I also miss going to the office, doing the morning coffee run, meeting up with friends for extenda-lunches and all those other things that make downtown work less monotonous.

The new grass in the back yard is looking good. I am going to hate to see my water bill though.

Netflix is causing me stress. I can’t believe the anxiety that trying to figure out what to watch causes me.

It’s Monday of the long weekend and here I am typing up a blog post and enjoying coffee, toast and peanut butter.

I can’t wait for the YMCA to reopen. I really need to hit the gym and I miss my co-workers. Working with kids really does make you feel younger.

It was good to see my nephew this weekend. It’s also funny to watch him squirm when Sherri embarrasses him in front to grandma and grandpa and his mom.

I find it interesting how parents tell their kids not to do things they did at that age like drinking. I completely understand why they do this however I still can’t reconcile the hypocrisy. Kids are going to drink and experiment so let’s agree on that and provide the kids the safe space to do these things. I told my nephew he can come over anytime and we can drink ourselves silly if he really wants to……a good hangover teaches you more about not drinking than mom and dad telling you not to drink. Good thing I don’t have kids I guess.

As I ready myself for the next phase of my career I often think about how to be a better leader…it’s hard when you generally feel contemptuous of other people, but you gotta put your poker face on and double down to get ahead. This said, to be an effective leader you sometimes gotta blow up the Enterprise (star trek reference). Sometimes you have to make tough decisions about what works and what doesn’t. Great leaders cannot be afraid to start fresh, to throw out reservations and take scary and uncertain paths. Thinking of great leaders in the world, past and present, they had to blow up their Enterprise and face loss in order to succeed.

Why does coffee made at home not taste as good as when you get it from Tim’s? ++ Dirty Secret Alert++ - I like Tim’s and McDonald’s coffee.

I often wonder if and when I will make it back to Thunder Bay anytime soon.

One positive of Covid – Costco. We dared to go this past weekend. They have a great set up to help ensure people to not get in my way. And I bought a new 600W food processor.

Beer is frickin expensive. I generally buy  Presidents Choice Honey Red to enjoy at home….don’t laugh. For around $1 a beer, its better than Bud or Coors and brewed by Big Rock…can’t beat the price. This time I decided to buy Coors Slice to try it out. 12 beer for $32 bucks. No thanks. Back to PC Red it is.

Sherri apparently doesn't approve of the covid beard. Ya I look homeless but it's staying until I can get a haircut.
